Notice of Financial Incentive
Version 1.5 · Effective Oct 12, 2026
How the member payment, cash back, and Referral Bonus relate to the personal information you provide — material terms, how you opt in, your right to withdraw, and the value of your information.
Notice of Financial Incentive
Some Athena programs provide something of value in exchange for the personal information that makes them work. Athena offers three: the member payment, cash back, and the Referral Bonus (together, the “Incentive Programs”). Each is a separate program with its own requirements and its own amount, and they are never combined into a single figure. This notice summarizes their material terms, the personal information involved, how you opt in, and how to withdraw. The full mechanics live in the Membership & Rewards terms in the app; if anything here differs, those terms control.
The programs and their material terms
- Member payment — a flat $10 per month, paid in cash to your Athena Cash. You qualify each calendar month by keeping three things active: a mortgage with any lender, open and in good standing; a recurring deposit of your income into your Athena Cash; and that mortgage paid from your Athena Cash. The amount is the same for every qualifying member — there are no tiers, and it does not depend on the size of your mortgage or who holds it. If a requirement lapses, the payment pauses with no penalty and resumes the next payment cycle after you reconnect it. Months you do not qualify are not paid retroactively.
- Cash back — a monthly cash payment made in addition to the member payment, and only to members whose mortgage is an Athena loan. You qualify each calendar month by meeting all of the member payment requirements with an Athena mortgage in good standing. The amount is set by your tier, based on the original loan amount of your Athena mortgage — from $75 to $475 per month, beginning at an original loan amount of $50,000. Cash back pauses and resumes on the same basis as the member payment, and is decided independently of it: pausing one does not necessarily pause the other.
- Referral Bonus — a one-time cash bonus equal to one month of the referring member’s own mortgage payment (principal & interest), capped at $4,000 per referral. Every Athena member who holds a mortgage can earn it, whoever the lender is — it does not have to be an Athena loan. It is paid to the referring member after the new member establishes a recurring deposit of income into their Athena Cash and pays their mortgage from it for 3 consecutive months, and after the referring member uploads their most recent mortgage statement through the Athena mobile app. The referring member’s mortgage must be open and in good standing when they qualify and when they are paid. One bonus per referred member; self-referrals and existing Athena customers don’t qualify. The Referral Bonus is earned by the individual member credited with the qualifying referral, whether they hold an individual Account or a Joint Account. Joint ownership alone does not earn the other owner a Referral Bonus for that referral.
All three are promotional payments — not interest, not deposit products, and not part of any loan. Participating, pausing, or withdrawing never changes your interest rate, principal & interest, APR, or loan term, and these payments do not reduce the amount you owe your mortgage servicer. Payments may be reportable as income (IRS Form 1099).
Personal information involved
To run the Incentive Programs we collect, use, retain, and disclose: identifiers (your name and contact information; for referrals, your invite link and the fact that a referral completed); financial information (your Athena Cash deposit activity — including recurring income deposits — and your mortgage payment status, monthly principal & interest, and original Athena loan amount, which confirm qualification each month, set your cash back tier, and size the Referral Bonus; and, for the Referral Bonus, your most recent mortgage statement, which you upload in the Athena mobile app and which we use to verify the mortgage is yours and in good standing and to confirm the principal & interest amount); and program records (payments made, and taxpayer information such as a TIN where a Form 1099 is required). This information is handled as described in our Privacy Policy and GLBA Privacy Notice. For mortgage products, we may share certain information with advertising partners for targeted advertising.
If your Athena Cash is a Joint Account, the Incentive Programs use deposit activity by both owners. Each owner must opt in before the Account can participate, and either owner may withdraw at any time, which ends the Account’s participation.
How you opt in
Participation is optional and requires you to affirmatively opt in: for the member payment and cash back, by setting up the qualifying income deposit and paying your mortgage from your Athena Cash in the app; for the Referral Bonus, by sharing your invite through the app while you hold a mortgage and uploading your most recent mortgage statement in the app. You never have to participate to use your Athena Cash or your mortgage.
Your right to withdraw
You may withdraw from any of these programs at any time, without penalty, by sending a secure message through the Athena app, calling 877-687-0111, or emailing privacy@athenamoney.co. Withdrawing never affects your loan, and amounts already earned will still be paid. If you ask us to delete personal information the programs need, we will treat that request as a withdrawal — we cannot determine qualification or pay you without it.
The value of your personal information
This notice, including this estimate, is required by applicable state consumer privacy law for programs that provide something of value in exchange for personal information. We estimate, in good faith, that the value of the personal information used in each program is reasonably related to — and equal to — the value of the incentive itself: $10 per month for the member payment; $75–$475 per month for cash back, depending on your tier; and, for the Referral Bonus, one month of your own mortgage payment (principal & interest), up to $4,000 per referral. In making this estimate we considered the anticipated revenue generated by member deposit and mortgage relationships and the anticipated expenses of administering the programs.
